Cougars defeated College of the Sequoias Wednesday
Taft College’s volleyball team is looking at extending its Central Valley Conference winning streak to four tonight when the Cougars host Reedley College.
First serve in the Cougar Sports Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Cougars extended their CVC record to 4-2 (11-5 overall) on Wednesday when they swept College of the Sequoias in Visalia.
It was the third straight conference triumph after losing back-to-back five-set matches to defending champ Fresno and Porterville. Those two sit atop the CVC standings with the Cougars in third.
The scores were 25-18, 25-14, 25-18.
Sophomore outside hitter Chanel Cantere was the team leader in attacks with 16. She also had 12 digs.
Freshman Tiffany Mapusaga paced the defensive effort with 16 digs and sophomore middle blocker Sina Mauga had another good night at the net with seven blocks to follow up her six-block performance last Friday. She also had four kills.
Lani Kaiwi and Rachel Kapesi both contributed nine digs, Tyra Williams five and Haley Walrath two.
Ono Taotofi had three kills and three blocks and Madison Lawley three service aces.
Kapesi had 25 assists as the Cougar setter.
Tonight’s match also is the team’s annual fund-raiser for breast cancer awareness so fans can expect the Cougar Sports Center to be decked out in a lot of pink.
