Budget cuts have forced Taft College athletic teams to find ways to generate money for their programs.
Cougar baseball coach Vince Maiocco did a 100-mile bicycle ride to bring in some cash for his program.
Now the entire athletic department is out selling Christmas trees.
Athletes have teamed up with Alpine Christmas Trees, one of the state’s largest tree retailers, in the latest fund-raising effort.
But it’s not your customary Christmas tree lot sort of enterprise.
These trees are being sold in advance.
The sale will run this month only.
The pre-sold trees will be available for pick-up Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at the TC softball field behind the gymnasium. The trees will be available on Nov. 30 from 3-8 p.m. and on Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The goal is to generate $15,000 for the athletic program by selling a thousand trees.
The trees are Noble Firs and Douglas Firs.
Prices begin at $32.16, including tax.
Pre-sales order forms are available from athletes and at the Cougar Sports Center.
