TC approaches city about renaming Emmons Park Drive
A year ago, as Taft Union High School turned 100 years old, the Taft City Council approved renaming a stretch of Seventh Street Wildcat Way.
Now, with Taft College celebrating its 90th birthday, the city may be changing another street name.
City planning Director Mike Waiczis said Wednesday there has been a request to rename Emmons Park Drive in honor of the college.
It would become Cougar Court.
Emmons Park Drive isn't a long street.
It now runs only a little over a block from Sixth Street west to the alley behind the Kern County Branch Library.
It once curved through the TC campus to connect with Taylor Street, but that part was abandoned and is now part of the the college campus.
Taft College, the Kern County Library, Peace Lutheran Church and the church parsonage are the only addresses on Emmons Park Drive
