  • A celebration of life will be held at Westside Believers Fellowship on Fri. Oct. 26at 11:00 for former Taft resident Theresa Hicks.
Theresa was born in Taft, CA on October 10, 1959 and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 21, 2012 with her family by her side. Unfortunately compiled complications following surgery was more that she was able to overcome.
Theresa was raised in Taft and attended Saint Mary’s Catholic school until the fifth grade, then attending local public schools, graduating from TUHS in 1977. Theresa experienced several employment opportunities in her life, including Contel telephone operator, Rolands’ Communications answering service, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital records department and Wal-Mart Corp.
One of Theresa’s favorite things in life was laughter. She loved a good joke and would go to great lengths to share any “new ones” she heard. She was always looking for ways to share laughter and good time. She was an excellent care giver and took responsibility for the care of several family members during her life time. Another favorite of hers was her dog “Cuddles” as she saw this as another opportunity for nurturing and made the most of it, enjoying moments of relaxing in her easy chair with her love “Cuddles” at her side.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, John Hicks and Anita Lewis and younger brother Marty Hicks. She is survived by her soul mate of 18 years Calvin Glenn of Bakersfield, brothers Ted Hicks and John Hicks of Bakersfield, sister Barbara Kohl (Brent) of San Luis Obispo and Vicky Waugh (Ron) Taft. She is also survived by her nieces Roxanne Elissague of Taft, Katie LeDuc (Michael) of Taft, Korie Powell (Austin) of Redwood City and great nieces and nephews, Emily LeDuc, Kevin LeDuc, Benjamin Powell and Kenzie Powell. She is also survived by Aunts and Uncles Barbara and John McNulty of Chula Vista and Pam and Norman Sanchez of Campo, CA, Robert Hicks of Santa Maria, Joyce Hicks of Santa Maria, and many other cousins and friends.
A special thank you to Uncle Wesley and Aunt Brenda Furrh, Uncle Everett Furrh and Aunt Hazel Hough for the special love and support they showed throughout our time of need.
