Taft College falls to 8-3 in the conference

Taft College gave perennial Central Valley Conference volleyball champion Fresno City College a battle when the Rams came to Taft a month ago, but the second round Wednesday night was a completely different story.

The Cougars took Rams to five games in that first meeting before Fresno’s talent and superior depth overtook TC in the fifth game.
The second meeting wasn’t close.

Fresno swept by the Cougars 25-11, 25-15, 25-18.

The loss dropped TC to 8-3 in the conference heading into tonight’s crucial match at Porterville (9-2).  If the Cougars can get a win they should end up in at least a tie for second with the Pirates.

Porterville beat the Cougars in five sets the first time around.

Chanel Cantere led the Cougars in attacks against Fresno with nine.  She added nine digs on defense.

Tiffany Mauga led the defense with 11 digs and Tyra Williams had five kills and 10 digs.

On Monday the Cougars host Merced College in the Al Baldock Cougar Sports Center.  The action begins at 6 p.m.
