Varsity girls finish 15th while varsity boys come in 21st

Like the other fall sports, the Taft High boys and girls cross country teams are winding down their season.

The Wildcats took another step closer while improving their marks Saturday in the Kern County Championships at Hart Park.

“We continue to improve although we are still running well behind the larger schools in Kern County,” said Taft coach David Dennis. “This week nearly all of the Taft High runners showed improvement on this race, some by over two minutes.”

Varsity girls

Overall, Taft finished 15th out of 21 schools with a point total of 418. McFarland was first with 75 points.

Halle Neher had the highest finish for the Lady Wildcats individually by coming in 70th in the three mile race with a time of 21:28.96. Taft teammate Abby Xancale was one spot behind by coming in with a time of 21:29.24.

Mayda Cisneros was 104th with a time of 23:14.28 while Samantha Morrow was one spot behind in 105th place with a time of 23:15.34.
Lizette Mendoza finished the race in 113th place with a time of 24:02.97 while Jasmin Lopez was in 124th place with a time of 24:30.37

Freshmen girls

Overall, Taft finished 13th 356 points. Shafter was first with 77 while Independence was second with 110.

Celida Escobedo had the highest placement for Taft in the two mile race by coming in 55th with a time of 16:18.31. Kathy Rubio was 76th with a time of 17:47.59. Gabby Urzua was 80th with a time of 17:58.91.

Varsity boys

Overall, the Wildcats finished 21st out of 26 teams with a point total of 543 points. McFarland was first with 59 points.

Individually, Chris Lopez had the best finish of the three mile race for the Wildcats by coming in 69th with a time of 17:18.46.

Cesar Guerrero was 96th with a time of 17:51.52 while Huan Topete was 118th with a time of 18:28.47.

Jesus Gutierrez was 123rd with a time 18:42.24 while CJ Lewis was 141st with a time of 19:22.66. Jose Moron finished in 162nd place with a time of 20:43. 28.

Freshmen boys

Taft’s Alex Arguello was 64th with a time of 12:56.72 while Arturo Delgadillo was 82nd with a time of 13:38.56. Christian Palacios was 85th with a time of 13:44.06 while Brandon Breslin finished in a time of 15:19.84 to finish 92nd while Noe Bautista was 97th with a time of 17:20.56.
