  • Taft College maintained its No. 1 ranking in California Friday with a 7-0 route of visiting College of the Sequoias.
The Cougars also remained undefeated at 13-0-3 and have shut out nine opponents in a row.
Head coach Angelo Cutrona used the game with the winless Giants to experiment and rest some key players.
And, he didn’t want his team to come out flat.
“The main thing is I wanted us to be sharp and we did that,” he said.  “I felt very good about the way we played.”
He wanted to work on some defensive tactics, but COS didn’t put up much of a fight offensively.
“They didn’t allow us to do what we planned,” he said.  “We had no attacks from them to defend.”
The Giants didn’t have a single shot on goal.
COS showed up late so the Cougars had to warm up twice.
“That could have taken us out of our game, but our guys didn’t let that bother them.”
    TC spread the wealth around.
Gerardo Gonzalez had two goals and an assist.
Ramiro Barazza had a goal and an assist.  He leads the team with 15 goals.
Charlie Gonzalez had a goal and an assist.
Omar Aguilar, Trefon Demison and Edgar Plascencia had a goal and Edgar Contreras, Roberto Mariscal and Andy Reyes had assists.
The Cougars are at San Bernardino Valley College (8-7-3) today for a non-conference game.
“We know what to expect,” Cutrona said.  “We know every team is aiming at us.  We just have to go out and do our job.”
