  • Playing without their top regular season offensive performer, the Dunsmuir Tigers opened the playoffs with a 68-6 blowout win over Greenville Friday night in Dunsmuir.
The Tigers led 60-6 at half time, then called off the dogs.
Dunsmuir senior Justin DeClusin, who leads Division 6 in rushing yards per game and per carry, didn't play Friday night, but still the Tigers had 389 yards of offense.
Junior quarterback Brian Taylor completed 9 of 10 passes for 230 yards and 4 touchdowns, 2 to senior James Adams and one each to senior Mason Mekeel and junior CJ Palmer.
Junior Dayton Pepperdine rushed for 77 yards on 7 carries and scored 3 touchdowns and a conversion.
Palmer caught 4 passes for 110 yards and scored 2 conversions. He also returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown.
Adams caught 2 passes for 75 yards, Mekeel 1 for 28 yards, and Pepperdine 2 for 17 yards.
Sophomore Chase Sordahl had 4 rushes for 31 yards and a touchdown; senior Dylan Brashear had a pass interception; Adams and Pepperdine recovered fumbles; and senior Jeff Rhoades had a quarterback sack.
After four lopsided Division 6 playoff openers, Dunsmuir is scheduled to play a semifinal game Nov. 9 at Loyalton. Even though the Tigers won their Oct. 20 regular season game at Loyalton, 48-6, Loyalton (8-2 overall) earned a higher seed because it placed first in the South 8-Man league, while Dunsmuir (10-1) placed second in the North. Loyalton won its playoff opener over Tulelake, 50-20.
Butte Valley (7-2), which placed third in the North, will play at North champion Redding Christian (11-0) in the other semifinal. Redding Christian defeated Mercy of Red Bluff 50-18 in the first round; Butte Valley defeated Princeton, the second place team in the South.
