After a hot start, cold weather expected by weekend with a chance of rain, mountain snow

You can expect a roller coaster of weather this coming week.

Temperatures will be going up, up, up with afternoon highs getting into the upper 80s at the start of the week before plummeting by week's end to the upper 50s with a chance of rain by Friday.

Highs Monday and Tuesday in Taft are expected to hit 87 or 88, then start to fall as the weather pattern shifts from high pressure to a strong low pressure system.

That system, the National Weather Service says, will cool temperatures as much as 30 degrees, with highs by Friday and Saturday not even reaching 60 degrees and lows falling from the upper 50s to low 60s.

It will be cold enough by Saturday that snow could fall low enough to impact travel on I-5 over the Grapevine and Highway 58 east through Tehachapi.

Right now, there is a 40 percent chance of rain showers in Taft on Friday with a chance of rain lingering into Saturday night.

Check through the week for updates on the changing weather.
