Everyone escapes serious injury in crash north of Maricopa
At least two people were injured in a fiery collision on Highway 33 north of Maricopa Saturday night.,
The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. when a SUV and compact car collided on the highway at Cadet Road.
The smaller car caught fire.
Two women and a young child got out of the car before it was consumed by the fire.
A witness said the SUV was southbound on Highway 33 when it attempted to pass a vehicle stopped to make a left turn to go east on Cadet Road.
The SUV went on to the dirt shoulder, where the driver lost control, came back into the roadway and slide into the small compact.
All the people in the SUV escaped injury.
Two women and a small child were able to get out of the smaller car before it was engulfed.
They were taken a safe distance from the fire. The two women were taken to the ambulances on stretchers. The child, a girl about two years old, was held by passers-by then carried to the ambulance, apparently uninjured.
Both women and the toddler were taken from the scene in two ambulances with minor to moderate injuries.
