- Deputies search car and find 23 grams of meth, senior deputy says
Kern County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Taft man on drug dealing charges after they found him visiting a home where they had gone to to conduct a probation search Tuesday.
Deputies were at a home on the 300 block of Taylor Street about 2 p.m. for the search.
One man visiting the house, identified by senior deputy Kevin George as James Watson, 57, agreed to a search of his person and deputies found "a small amount of methamphetamine."
Deputies did some follow-up investigation and determined Watson had driven to the home, George said.
Deputies then asked for consent from Watson to search his car, but he said no, George said.
The deputies then obtained a search warrant and found a much larger amount of methamphetamine in the vehicle.
George said they seized 23 grams of the substance with a street value of approximately $2,300.
Watson was charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance.
Watson was booked into the Sheriff 's central receiving facility in Bakersfield and was being held on $30,000 bail, jail records showed Wednesday afternoon.
A second man at the Taylor Street home, Joseph Whyte, 60, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
