Rotary, Soroptimists, Kiwanis and Lions club to donate canned food for Westside Community Resource Center

Kiwanis Club President Sharon Hill has announced the plans for the traditional All

Service Clubs Luncheon, held every year to mark the beginning of the holiday season in Taft.

As in previous years, the luncheon will be held at the Fort on Wednesday, November 14, from noon noon to 1:00 p.m.

The Rotary Club of Taft, Taft Soroptimist Club, Midway-Sunset Lions, Taft Lions, and the Kiwanis Club of Taft all gather to bring donations canned goods and money to support the efforts of the Community Resource Center who distributes Thanksgiving baskets to needy families in our community.

"Usually there is a huge competition among service clubs to bring in the most in terms of pounds of canned goods or amount of money," stated Hill. "This year we are going to concentrate on the collective hard work done by our service clubs."

Citing a departure from previous Service Club Luncheons, Hill described the upcoming event as a time for service club members to mingle and to be entertained.

"We will celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with musical entertainment and the special announcement of the Grand Marshall of this year's Christmas Parade," stated Hill.

The Luncheon is being presented entirely by the Westside ROP's food service class.

"We are very happy to have the students plan and carry out this event," said Hill. "They have put together the menu, and they will prepare the meal as well as the hall set-up—complete with decorations."

All those wishing to attend the event are urged to make their reservations through their service club leadership.
