Junior varsity boys and girls finished third while varsity boys team finished fifth

The Taft boys and girls cross country team wrapped up their regular season last Thursday when they competed in the South Sequoia League championship in Wasco.

“We had a very good end to our regular season,” said Taft coach David Dennis.

As a team, the junior varsity and varsity girls teams placed third while the junior varsity boys team came in fourth. The varsity boys team finished fifth.

Abby Xancale was a medal winner as a 7th place sophomore while Celida Escobeda medaled as a 5th place freshman. Samantha Morrow medaled as a fourth place senior.

Cesar Guerrero medaled as the fourth place junior boy.

With the season almost over, Dennis feels good about the progress.

“We were very pleased with the progress we made through the season,” he said. “Only three of our runners had run on the varsity level before this season yet we had 28 runners compete in the finals and 26 finished season best times.”

Taft continues their season Thursday when they compete in the Section Valley Finals at Woodward Park in Fresno.
