Bakersfield congressman holds 3rd most powerful position in House of Representatives
Congressman Kevin McCarthy was re-elected by his congressional colleagues to serve as the House Majority Whip in the 113th Congress.
This position is the 3rd most powerful position in the House of Representatives whose responsibility is to educate members of Congress and ensure passage of legislation voted on the House floor. As Majority whip, Congressman McCarthy has a critical role in directing strategy and developing policy. He is the first California Republican to hold this position in Congress.
McCarthy issued this statement after the vote:
“I am honored that my Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives have chosen me to serve as the House Majority Whip. Our nation faces many challenges, and I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the commonsense ideas that come from our constituents from Central Valley to the Indian Wells Valley to the Antelope Valley will always be heard in Washington.
Our nation’s principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom will continue to guide the actions of this Congress.”
