Dr. Vibul Tangpraphaphorn, known affectionately to his many friends and patients in Taft as just "Dr. Tang," was named grand marshall for the 2012 Taft Christmas Parade.
The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon at the All-Service Clubs Luncheon, a traditional kickoff to the holiday season in Taft.
Kathy Orrin, executive director of The Taft District Chamber of Commerce, made the announcement near the end of the luncheon.
Tang has been a physician in Taft for more than 30 years and is past president of the Taft Rotary Club.
Orrin noted this is the third consecutive year that a Rotarian has been grand marshall.
The four Taft Service clubs – Rotary, Kiwanis, Soroptimist, Taft Lions and Midway Sunset Lions gathered at the Historic Fort for the annual luncheon, where donated food and money is collected to give to the West Side Community Resource Center to help provide Thanksgiving food baskets for needy families in the Taft area.
This year's luncheon was prepared and served by students from the West Side ROP food service program.
