Seatbelts a target during maximum enforcement period over holiday weekend

The California Highway Patrol is planning another maximum enforcement period for the Thanksgiving holiday to keep holiday traffic moving and motorists safe as they travel to and from holiday gatherings.
The maximum enforcement period (MFP) starts Wednesday at 6 p.m. and through Sunday (Nov. 25) at 11:59 p.m.
That means there will be a lot of CHP officers out enforcing the laws and vehicle code.
“Motorists are less likely to  encounter one of our officers by simply wearing their seatbelts,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow.
Last year's Thanksgiving was a tragic one for many families.
Collisions increased, and 32 people lost their lives on the states roads, highways and freeways, a 52 percent increase from 2010.
Two thirds of the people killed  in accidents investigated by the CHP were not wearing seatbelts.
