Father had pleaded innocent and will go to trial

The mother of a toddler that ingested methamphetamine in Taft in August has accepted a plea deal, but her husband is going to trial on charges.

Gina Barrios, 38, pleaded no contest to one count of willful cruelty to a child and a second charge of obstructing officers was dismissed.

Barrios is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 16, 2013.

The father, Christopher Davidson, has pleaded not guilty to charges of cruelty to a child, obstructing officers and being an accessory to a crime.
Davidson was ordered to stand trial at a preliminary hearing on Nov. 19.

Barrios and Davidson were arrested together on Aug. 31 at a Bakersfield motel, more than two weeks after their daughter was hospitalized with strange symptoms and tested positive for methamphetamine in her system.

The two year-old was later released from the hospital into protective custody.

Barrios is being held on $60,000 bail pending sentencing.

Davidson is currently free on bail.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Bakersfield on Nov. 30.
