The Taft College women’s basketball team won’t get its first home game until Jan. 9 when conference action gets underway.
The Cougars will, however, be a bit closer to home tonight when they play at Bakersfield College. Tip-off in the Gil Bishop Sports Center is at 7 p.m.
The Cougars are 4-6 in the pre-conference season.
They will be in Chula Vista (near San Diego) tomorrow to take on Southwestern and take part in their fourth and final tournament Dec. 14-16 in San Diego. After that they will take some time off during the holiday season before a Jan. 4 date with Cosumnes River College in Sacramento in the final pre-conference tune-up.
The Cougars should have their leading scorer back in the line-up tonight after missing two and a half of the games TC played in last weekend’s tournament in Salinas.
Freshman Erica Evans, who is averaging 18.5 points per game, tweaked an ankle in the first tourney game after scoring 15 points. Her field goal percentage is 51.1.
Sophomore center Bezait Anbesse is averaging 10.6 rebounds per game.
Bakersfield comes into tonight’s game with a 3-3 record and has won two in a row – 55-53 over San Diego Mesa and 63-59 over MiraCosta.
TC will have played 16 road games before opening Central Valley Conference play by hosting Reedley College.
