  • Kern County Sheriff's deputies woke up a man sleeping in a car on a South Taft street early Monday morning.
They found out he was wanted on an arrest warrant.
Then they found nearly two ounces of methamphetamine with a street value of more than $5,000 on him, according to Taft substation commander Sgt. Martin Downs.
Travis Dale Lansford is being held without bail on drug trafficking charges and several warrants pending his next court appearance.
Downs said deputies from the Taft substation found Lansford, 40, sleeping in a car on the 1000 block of Buena Vista Street about 2 a.m.
When they checked him for warrants, they found he had an arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
Lansford was searched while being taken into custody and the deputies found 55 grams of methamphetamine as well as a loaded syringe, scales and plastic bags, plus $198 in cash, Downs said.
Lansford was booked into the Taft Jail and later transferred to the central receiving facility in Bakersfield.
He was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Thursday in Taft.
