The Taft junior varsity girls soccer team found some success this past Friday and Saturday when they went 3-1 while allowing only two goals at the Liberty Tournament in Bakersfield.
“Overall, I'm very pleased with the direction the team is heading,” said Taft coach Ryan Hickman.
With the victory, Taft improves to 5-3 on the young season.
Taft got off to a roaring start Friday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Delano. Aydee Alvarez and Karen Quinonez each scored a goal in the match.
The Lady Wildcats had a tougher battle that night after edging out the Arvin Bears 1-0 with the only goal of the match coming from Alvarez.
Taft tasted their first loss of the tournament early Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to the East Bakersfield Blades. Taft bounced back in their final match with a 3-1win over the West Vikings.
In the final match, Quinonez Nayli Alcantar and Jazmin Lopez each scored a other goal.
Taft returns home Tuesday to face the Mira Monte Lions. The match starts at 4:30 p.m.
