  • Taft varsity soccer teams compete in Garces Tournament

  • It has become a tradition this time every year where a large number of schools from around the state descend on Bakersfield to take part in the Garces Holiday Classic soccer tournament. The Taft boys and girls soccer teams are no exception as they kick off their tournament run in the Silver Division of the tournament this Friday at the State Farm Sports Village in Bakersfield.
    Both the varsity girls and boys kick off the tournament Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The girls will take on Rosamond while the boys will square off against Sierra.
    Win or lose, the Lady Wildcats will face the winner or loser of the match between Coast Union-McFarland. If Taft wins they play Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. If the Lady Wildcats lose they will play again at 9 a.m.
    Meanwhile, the boys will face the winner or loser of the match between Kennedy and Mira Monte junior varsity. If the Wildcats defeat Sierra, they will play Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. If they lose, Taft returns to action at 9 a.m.
    If either team is in the losers bracket and loses they will play at 12:45 p.m. If they are in the winners bracket and they win or lose, the Wildcats will wrap up their tournament run at 2:30 p.m.
