Different location but same result for the Taft varsity boys basketball team Tuesday night when they fell 57-47 to the Mira Monte Lions in Bakersfield.
Mira Monte got off to roaring start by reeling off 11 straight points including a pair of three pointers. Taft battled back to get within one at 17-16 at the end of the first quarter.
The Wildcats took their first lead of the game 33 seconds into the second quarter. The teams tied each other three different times over the course of the quarter. However, Taft went on an 8-3 run to close out the half.
Mira Monte pulled away in the third quarter leading at one point by 10 points before holding a 45-36 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
The Lions increased their lead to 12 at 53-41. Taft would cut the deficit to single digits at nine before Mira Monte regained a double digit advantage the rest of the way.
