Two hurt in possible DUI crash
- Passers-by detain suspect who tried to flee scene
Two men were injured and one could face felony drunk driving charges after a crash at Kern and Hillard Streets Friday evening.
A Pontiac van slammed into the rear of a Honda Accord that was stopped to make a left turn from Kern onto Hillard just before 5:30 p.m.
A witness said the driver of the van climbed out of his vehicle and tried to flee the scene but was detained by passers-by.
He was handcuffed by Taft Police before being placed on a stretcher and transported by Hall Ambulance
Both vehicles were westbound.
The witness said the van was travelling at a high rate of speed and nearly hit several other vehicles before slamming into the Honda.
The Honda was stopped with its turn signal on, the witness said.
The driver of the Honda was pinned inside his crushed vehicle until firefighters extricated him.
His injuries were described as moderate by firefighters.
