Last week it was the Taft varsity girls soccer team that won a tournament title.
This past Saturday it was the junior varsity girls soccer team’s turn after they went 2-0-1 at the Shafter Tournament to win the title.
“Our defense was solid and all the girls played hard,” said Taft coach Ryan Hickman. “Fatigue began to set in by the third game but I was proud of how our girls fought through the pain.”
Taft had their only tie of the tournament come in the first match when they knotted South 0-0.
Scoring was low in the Lady Wildcats second match with Aydee Alvarez scoring the only goal of the match to defeat Golden Valley 1-0.
The Lady Wildcats wrapped up their tournament run with a 3-0 victory over host Shafter.
Alvarez, Karen Quinonez and Diana Cisneros each had a goal in the match.
Taft has some time off before kicking off the South Sequoia League season Friday, Jan. 4 when they travel to Bakersfield to take on Bakersfield Christian. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.
