A Watsonville man suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 33 in the Belridge area early Wednesday morning.
Benito Sierra-Guzman apparently pulled from Lerdo Highway into the path of a big rig, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Sierra-Guzman was stopped on Lerdo at the intersection with the two-lane highway and pulled into the path of the 2007 Mack driven by Charles Thompson of Bakersfield, the CHP said.
Thompson saw the car pull out and applied his brakes but was unable to avoid slamming into the driver's side of the 1996 Infiniti sedan driven by Guzman.
Guzman, 29, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment.
Thompson was not injured in the 6:30 a.m. crash.
Both men were wearing seatbelts.
