A funeral service will be held in the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. for longtime Taft resident, Melinda Jane Criswell, 68. Pastor Michael Criswell will officiate and burial will follow in the West Side District Cemetery. Mrs. Criswell was born in Springfield, Missouri on May 15, 1944 and passed away in Pasadena, California on January 1, 2013. She had lived in Taft since 1952. She attended Taft City Schools and was a member of Taft Union High School, class of 1963. She had been employed by Taft Police Department as a matron and dispatcher for 11 years. Included in her hobbies were sewing and reading, two pastimes she enjoyed very much. She was a member of a bunco group, an RV group and the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Eulah Merrill; brothers Don and Mac Merrill; sister, Sarah Tucker; and grandson, Evan Schryver. Mrs. Criswell is survived by her husband, Raymond “Ed” Criswell; daughter and her husband, Barbara and Lee Schryver; son and his wife, Darin and Erin Criswell; grandchildren, Emily, Blake and Kaitlyn Schryver and Brenna Criswell all of Taft; brother, Bryce Maloney; sisters, Eulah Howell, Faith Mitchell and Lina Wade. In addition to numerous nieces and nephews she is also survived by her special niece, Debra “DeeDee” Johnson, with whom she was very close. Visitation will be held at Erickson & Brown Funeral Home on Monday, January 7, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and again on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to service time.
