It was not the way the Taft varsity girls soccer team wanted to start the season but their biggest nightmare became reality Friday night in a 5-0 loss to the Bakersfield Christian Eagles in Bakersfield.
Scoring was quiet through the first part of the opening half. After the Lady Eagles finally broke through with a goal over halfway through, the floodgates opened with Bakersfield Christian scoring three goals in a short amount of time to lead 4-0 at the end of the first half.
The Lady Eagles struck one final time near the midway part of the second half with a goal on a penalty kick.
Taft returns to action Monday when they host Arvin. The match begins at 6 p.m.
