  • Taft man pleads no contest to drug trafficking

  • The Taft man who deputies arrested after they said they found him sleeping in a car in south Taft with more than $5,000 worth of methamphetamine will be sentenced later this month after he pleaded no contest to drug trafficking charges.
    Travis Dale Lansford, 40, is free on $20,000 bail awaiting his sentencing on Jan. 23.
    Lansford entered his no contest plea on dec. 26 at a preliminary hearing in Arvin-Lamont Branch of Kern County Superior Court, according to the court website.
    Lansford was arrested by deputies who found him asleep in a car on the 1000 block of Buena Vista about 2 a.m. on Dec. 6.
    Lansford had a warrant for his arrest on unrelated charges and was taken into custody by the deputies.
    As they searched him, the found 55 grams – nearly two ounces – of the methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $5,500.
