District to appeal to the state for reimbursement

The Taft City School District lost a lot of funding after the Taft High School shooting.

Many children stayed home the day after shooting, and that could cost the TCSD thousands of dollars.

Supt. Ron Bryant told the District Board of Trustees the district is appealing to the state for reimbursement for its enrollment loss because of the Jan. 10 Taft High School shooting incident.

He said enrollment on the six TCSD campuses the day after the shooting was down about 40 percent.

“That translates to $24,000 in lost revenue on Friday (the day after the shooting),” he said. “On Monday it was back up to 90 percent.”

If the appeal is accepted the state will cover the district’s loss.
