A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery in Taft, California on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. for Taft native, Janet May Oliver, age 72. Visitation hours at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home in Taft, California will be on Friday, January 25, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Janet was born on October 3, 1940 in Taft, California and passed away in Irvine, California on January 12, 2013. Janet's father, Walter Carney, worked most of his career for Standard Oil at its facility in El Segundo, California. Janet's mother, Doras Shugart Carney, was a homemaker and later worked at Garrett Air Research in Torrance, California and then became a collector and dealer of antique dolls. Janet attended El Segundo High School, where she graduated in 1958. Janet married in 1959 to Richard Pierotti and they had two sons, Richard and Anthony Pierotti. After Janet's first husband passed away, she remarried in 1975 to Joe Oliver and had two more sons, Thaddeus and Damien Oliver. Janet worked for many years for General Telephone and was involved in many activities for her children, including President of the PTA, Cub Scout Den Mother and attending many, many football, baseball, soccer and other sports events for her four sons and later her nine grandchildren. Janet loved to read and enjoyed music, Facebook and Farmville. Janet also enjoyed traveling and visited England, France, Ireland and Spain on different trips. She particularly enjoyed Ireland given her Irish heritage. Janet was a long time resident of Huntington Beach, California and later lived in Reno, Nevada, Garden Grove, California and Irvine, California. Janet's mother, father and older brother, Gary Carney, preceded her in death. She is survived by son, Richard Pierotti of San Francisco, California and his wife, Karen, and grandchildren, Anna, Natalie and Daniel, son, Anthony Pierotti of Newport Beach, California and his wife, Marie, and grandchildren, Victoria, Michael and Samantha, son, Thad Oliver of Huntington Beach, California and his wife, Gina and grandchildren, Ryann, Alijah and Bailey, son, Damien Oliver of Irvine, California; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
