The driver of a truck later reported stolen eluded police after a short pursuit ended when the truck got struck in a field at the north edge of South Taft early Thursday morning.
The chase started when a Taft Police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on an NTS work truck at 12:29 a.m. at Pico Street and General Petroleum Avenue.
The vehicle failed to stop, then tried to evade officers, Lt. Pete Aranda said.
The truck only went a short distance before it got stuck in a field northeast of Pico and General Petroleum ad the driver fled.
Officers believe the suspect is a man but have no description.
The truck was towed and stored.
Aranda said police contacted NTS later in the day Thursday and the company alter field a stolen vehicle report with the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
