  • People and organizations are reaching out from all over to Taft Union High School in the wake of the Jan. 10 shooting.
Project Linus, a nonprofit organization based in Bloomington, Ill., provides homemade blankets to children in need. The organization donated the hundreds of blankets to provide one for each Taft High student following the school shooting Jan. 10.
Community and school volunteers pitched in to make up the difference so all 900-plus students could receive a blanket.
The blankets have been distributed for about a week with the last ones to be passed out on Monday.
“Their organization gives people in local communities a means by which they can “Provide Security Through Blankets,” thereby wrapping people in a tangible symbol of community support and caring. It is so touching what they’ve done, in hand-making hundreds of blankets for our students,” said Chelle Koerner, Taft High director of special services.
