  • Lincoln sixth, seventh graders split home matches

  • That time of the year arrives when the basketball season heats up and games are close. The Lincoln sixth grade boys basketball team got a taste of it Tuesday with a 14-13 overtime victory over Edison at home.
    Lincoln got the Lions off to a fast start with a layup seven seconds into the 16 minute first half. The Lions followed up with a free throw before the scoring briefly disappeared. Lincoln jumpstarted the scoring again with a layup before Edison got their first points of the game at the 9:55 mark.
    Edison scored another basket 1:45 later but was held to three points the rest of the half. In the meantime, Lincoln matched Edison’s point total to lead 8-7 at the halftime break.
    Edison took their first lead of the game 29 seconds into the second half with a three-pointer. Edison followed up with a jumper to lead by six. Lincoln fought back with a banked shot, a layup and a jumper with 7:55 left to knot the score at 13.
    Neither team was able to get a point until Lincoln  hit a free throw with 46 seconds left in the overtime period to win the game.
    Lincoln seventh grade boys lose
    The close games continued in the seventh grade boys basketball game with Edison outlasting Lincoln 29-25.
    Edison held the early edge by scoring four unanswered points in the first half. Lincoln fought back with six unanswered points to help the Lions take the lead.
    After the teams traded baskets, Lincoln sank two free throws while Edison hit only one. The difference gave the Lions an 11-7 lead at the half.
    Edison roared back in the second half scoring 10 unanswered points before Lincoln ended the run with a jumper with 9:57 to go. Fifteen seconds later, the Lions followed with a steal and layup to get Lincoln within four.
    Following an Edison basket, Lincoln reeled off eight straight points with half coming from one player to overtake the lead. Edison bounced back to tie the score at 23 and again at 25 before they scored the final four points to win.
