Dorothy Thompson, long-time resident of Taft, passed away just before her 95th birthday, on January 16, 2013. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and aunt. She is survived by her son Fred and his wife Joan; four grandchildren: Scott Gavin, Oriya Davi, Maggie Brede, Marcie Addison, and six great grandchildren. Dorothy was loved dearly by her family and large second family at the Taft Senior Center.
Dorothy grew up in Coalinga, CA where she met her late husband Harry Thompson. They spent many years camping in the Sierras and hosting a campground at Lake Alpine. After Harry passed away, Dorothy continued hosting for 16 more years until she was 85 yrs. old.
Dorothy loved baking, dogs, football, gardening, gambling, romance novels, garage sales, roses and pinochle.
A celebration of her life/late birthday party will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2:00 pm in the Senior Center Auditorium on Cascade Place in Taft. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the West Kern Oil Museum at P.O. Box 491, Taft, CA.
