TC about to get shutout win, but Barstow gets 3-run dinger in ninth to take it away

Taft College was on the cusp of a second shutout win in two days, but Barstow College’s Marcos Sanchez spoiled it with a three-run ninth-inning homerun today at Cougar Field.
The Cougars, who blanked Siskiyous 3-0 on Friday, led 1-0 heading into the ninth.  TC pitchers had allowed just one hit through eight innings.
Peter Lelich doubled to lead off the ninth, and after a fly out Gabriel Soto singled.  Sanchez then stepped up and poked one over the short leftfield fence.
Kevin Little, a freshman from Kern Valley, pitched five solid innings for the Cougars.  He gave up a single in the fifth with the runner advancing to second on a passed ball, but right fielder Matt Moorhead made a sensational diving catch of a line drive and nailed the runner trying to get back to second.
P.J. Matha shut out the Vikings over the next three innings, but Michael Vaquera was unable to keep the trend going.
Taft is 2-3-1 on the season and will try to get back on the winning track with a three-game home series against Monterey Peninsula College that begins next Friday.
