A couple of weeks after handily defeating the Robert F. Kennedy Thunderbirds at home, the Taft varsity boys soccer team was looking to complete the sweep in Delano Friday evening. Instead, the combination of the field, the weather conditions, revenge and heartbreak was too much for the Wildcats in a 2-1 overtime loss.
“Very disappointing result but the guys really battled and the synthetic field didn’t help much,” said Taft coach Cris Flores.
With the loss, Taft completes the South Sequoia League season with a record of 4-6-2. As a result of Friday’s finish, Taft will not be competing in the playoffs.
Robert F. Kennedy scored the lone goal in the first half while Taft answered in the second half. The Thunderbirds countered with a goal in the first overtime to win the match.
