After Friday afternoon’s match, the Taft junior varsity girls soccer team was wishing the season would still be going on following a 7-0 victory over the Robert F. Kennedy Thunderbirds in Delano.
“This was the perfect way to end the season,” said Taft coach Ryan Hickman. “The girls played inspired soccer, determined not to suffer the same disappointment as the last time we played.”
With the victory, Taft ends the season with an overall record of 17-4-3 and a South Sequoia League record of 9-1-2. Taft ended the season by winning five out of their last six matches and finished in a tie for second place. Last year, the team only won two matches in league play according to Hickman.
Aydee Alvarez led the charge for Taft with three goals while Diana Cisneros had 2. Karen Quinonenz and Cristina Alveaz each had 1.
“To say I am proud of this team and what they girls have accomplished this season is an understatement,” said Hickman. “Our sights are set on the SSL title next season and the program is heading in the right direction.”
