  • The Taft boys basketball team faced a huge challenge in their final game against Bakersfield Christian Friday. The Wildcats were unable to get over that hurdle in a 72-64 loss the Eagles on senior night.
    Taft started off the game strong with a 6-2 run thanks in part to Jacob Lopez's three-pointer. Bakersfield Christian stormed back with eight unanswered points to take a 10-6 advantage. The Wildcats countered with a 6-0 run including Steven Gee's layup with 21 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
    Gee extended the Taft lead 28 seconds into the second quarter. The Eagles bounced back to overtake the lead at 17-16.
    Taft remained in striking distance until Bakersfield Christian went on a 14-1 run late in the second quarter to lead 37-19 at the half.
    The Wildcats were unable to put a dent into the Bakersfield Christian lead in the third quarter trailing 55-35 heading into the fourth quarter.
    Vaughn Richardson started the Taft comeback 10 seconds into the fourth quarter with a three-pointer. During the fourth quarter, Taft would chip away at the lead before trailing 66-61 with 28 seconds remaining.
    However, Taf was held to Lopez's three-pointer the rest of the way.
