Defendant pleads no contest to one count from Dustin Acres theft
The Oildale man arrested for burglarizing a Dustin Acres home on New Years day has been sentenced to a year in jail.
Michael Milam, 20, was sentenced on Tuesday in Taft Branch of Kern County Superior Court.
He pleaded no contest on Jan. 15 to one count of burglary. A second burglary count and a charge of grand theft of a firearm were dropped as part of a plea agreement, court records show.
Milam was caught by Kern County Sheriff's deputies on Jan. 1 after they responded there for the second time in three days on a report of a burglary to a home in the 27000 block of Tank Farm Road.
Milam was at the scene and a car matching the suspect description from the previous break-in was also there, deputies said at the time.
Milam was detained for questioning, then arrested after a search of his Oildale home led to the discovery of items reported stolen from Dustin Acres in the first crime.
Milam was given credit for 48 days time served and also placed on five years probation and fined $360.
