I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking what a stunningly beautiful picture this is of me. It was drawn by Caliber when he was six years old.

I love how long and skinny my legs are. And the fact I appear to be carrying ski poles. But my favorite part about this picture is how much I resemble those crafty dried apple people we used to make in elementary school. (If you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about, here is a link I found to a Martha Stewart craft called “shrunken apple heads.” I personally like these heads better when they are wearing miniature wire rimmed glasses and a little lacy cap, like my little old apple lady did when I made her in third grade – and like I am wearing above.)

(drum roll please)

Mt. Shasta Area Newspapers is hosting a Draw Your Mom contest for Mother’s Day!

All entries will be featured on our website, mtshastanews.com.

Winning entries in four age categories (ages 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12) will appear in our newspaper May 8.

One first place winner in each age category will also receive a gift card to Mt. Shasta Cinemas, worth $20; a subscription to the Mount Shasta Herald, Dunsmuir News or Weed Press; and a bouquet of flowers for Mother’s Day.

Drop off entries at our office, 924 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. in Mount Shasta or send them to us at PO Box 127, Mt. Shasta, Calif. 96067.

All entries must be received by Tuesday, April 30.

Submit drawings on plain 8 1/2x11 paper. Siskiyou County residents who are not members of the immediate family of any Mt. Shasta Area Newspapers employee are eligible to win.

Include the child’s name, age, address and phone number on the back of each entry. Only one entry per child, please.

This contest was my idea and if we get only five entries I’m gonna feel like a dork. So break out your kid’s crayons and get’em drawing!
