  • The Taft varsity baseball team injected drama into their first games of the season Wednesday with a 2-1 and 5-4 victory over the Ridgeview Wolf Pack at home.
    It took the teams until the fourth inning to make a move on offense. Ridgeview made the first move in the top half of the fourth by scoring a run on two errors, a walk and a force out.
    Taft nearly tied the score in the last half of the fifth on a walk to Anthony Rodriguez and Jacob Lopez followed by a passed ball but the runners were stranded.
    The Wildcats tied up the score in the fifth on Jeremy Harmer's walk, a stolen base and Steven Gee's single.
    Taft went ahead for good with a pair of singles including Miguel Rodriguez's run scoring hit in the last half of the sixth inning.
    In the second game, Ridgeview struck early with a run in the second and two in third. Taft bounced back in the fourth with an error,a ground out and Kyle Adkins double.
    After adding an insurance run in the sixth, the Wildcats had their big inning by scoring two runs on three walks, a wild pitch and a single.
    Taft pulled out the victory in the seventh thanks to a passed ball on a called third strike, an intentional walk and three singles.
