  • Ten people were arrested in Taft on Saturday when Taft Police, joined by officers from seven other Kern County law enforcement agencies, served two search warrants and conducted a large-scale probation sweep.
    The search warrants led to the arrest of three people on drug trafficking charges and seven other for probation violations or other charges, Taft Police Sgt. Shad Swanson said.
    A total of 35 officers participated, including officers from the Taft Police Department, the Kern County Probation Department, the Ridgecrest Police Department, the Delano Police Department, the Shafter Police Department, the Kern High School District Police Department, and the Arvin Police Department, Swanson said.
    A warrant served at 701 Buchanan St Apt C led to the seizure of a variety of drugs and two arrests.
    Tammie Waldie, 45, and Debra Montez, 52, were both arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, maintaining a residence for the purpose of drug sales, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.
    Swanson said approximately 1.7 grams of suspected heroin were seized along with about 17 grams of marijuana.
    In addition, the sergeant said, several illegally possessed opiate prescription pills were located, including oxycodone and methadone.
    The second warrant was served at 119 Adkisson Way where officers seized more than two ounces of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $6,000, Swanson said, along with other items indicative of drug sales.
    Thomas Vega, 45, was arrested at the Adkisson Way residence and charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    After the warrants were served, the officers spread out through the community conducting probation searches and concentrating on convicted criminals released to probation under AB109, Swanson said.
    Seven more arrests were made.
    The suspects were identified as:
    •Mikel Blankenship, 45, arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    •Daniel Pate, 58, arrested on an outstanding warrant, and for possession of a controlled substance, possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    •James Arnold, 35, arrested for a violation of his probation.
    •Nicholas Ridenour, 19, arrested on an outstanding warrant.
    •Katherine Dinwiddie, 28, arrested for a violation of her probation.
    •Mario Alarcon, 42, was arrested for a violation of his probation.
    •Heath Jones, 32, was arrested for being a felon in possession of ammunition.
