A Taft man got into trouble for driving without a license, but his passenger ended up in a lot more trouble Sunday night when Kern County Sheriff's deputies arrested her on drug trafficking charges.

It all started with a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Kern Street just after 8 p.m. Sunday night.

Deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Jorge Negrete, 26, a news release from the KCSO said.

A passenger, identified as Chandra Lacoy 34, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, being under the influence of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

After the arrest, a search led to the discovery of apporoximately15 grams of methamphetamine concealed on Lacoy and more serious charges of possession of a controlled substance for sales and transportation of a controlled substance were added.

Lacoy was booked into the Taft Jail.

Negrete was given a citation and released from custody.
