  • TC basketball team thumped by No. 3 Fresno

  • Fresno City College, the state’s No. 3 women’s basketball team, has done it again.
    The Rams have completed another undefeated Central Valley Conference campaign and will be one of the favorites in the state basketball tournament.
    The Rams finished off a 12-0 CVC season (27-3 overall) Saturday by demolishing Taft College 103-38.
    The Rams raced out to a 50-25 halftime lead and outscored the Cougars in the second half by 40 points (53-13) with their patented swarming defense that forced 32 turnovers in the game.  Fresno had 26 steals with 11 of the team’s 13 players getting at least one.
    Fresno shot 55 percent from the floor (43-of-78) while limiting the Cougars to 31 percent (16-of-51).
    Sophomore center Bezait Anbesse led the Cougars with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
    Shelly Gill had 8 points and 4 rebounds, and Evans 8 points and 4 steals.
    Freshman center Crystallyn Faletoi had 9 rebounds and 2 points.  Ramonique Redding had 6 points, and Echols and Mylasia Smith 2 each.
     The Cougars finished in fourth place in the conference with a 5-7 record and 10-17 overall.
    Freshman guard Erica Evans, who averaged 17.9 points per game, was named first team all-conference.  She led the conference in scoring and was second in three-point shooting average at 34.1.
    Sophomore guard/forward Zanoria Echols was a second team selection.  She averaged 11.1 points per game.
    Anbesse was third in the conference in rebounding, averaging just below 10 per game.
