After going through a roller coaster ride of emotions, the No.3 seeded Taft varsity girls basketball team saw their season come to and end Tuesday night in a 53-38 loss to the No.2 seeded Mendota Aztecs in the semi final round of the Division IV playoffs.
Scoring was quiet early on before the Lady Aztecs exploded for a 12-2 run. Taft's offense picked up with Caitlyn Emberson sinking a free throw to cut the Lady Wildcat deficit to 18-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Mendota held a double digit advantage in the second quarter until Emberson scored on a basket with 4:09 remaining. After the Lady Aztecs on on a 6-0 run, Taft came to life with a 10-0 run in the final 1:35 of the half to cut the deficit to seven at 29-22.
Mendota and Taft traded points early in the third quarter However, the Lady Aztecs erupted for 16 points while Taft was held to three.
The Lady Wildcats bounced back in the fourth quarter by outscoring Mendota 10-7.
