The Taft Union High School District has selected the person they want to be the new superintendent.
The Board of Trustees voted 5-0 this morning to offer the job to Blanca Cavazos, who was principal at Arvin for 13 years and most recently worked in the Kern County Superintendent of Schools in the curriculum and instruction department.
Cavazos is anxious to take the job.
“I am honored the the Board of Trustees has selected me to be superintendent,” Cavazos said in a written press release from the high school this morning. I am especially proud to be a part of this district and community that has maintained a high quality education for all students.”
Board President Rick Twisselman, who along with board member Ken Anderson and representatives of the TUHS faculty and classified staff, met with Cavazos Thursday and also interviewed several people at Arvin High.
Science teacher Ryan Hickman and Mandi Neudorf, senior accounting technician in the business office, joined Twisselman and Anderson in the interviews conducted Thursday.
All were very enthusiastic about hiring Cavazos.
Cavazos will fill the vacancy left by Mark Richardson, who resigned in September 2012 to become superintendent of the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District.
