While the sports scene is transitioning to outdoor events, the West Side Recreation and Park District is still offering indoor sports with the Taft College volleyball camp and the youth bowling league taking place this month.
The Youth Bowling League, which starts this Saturday, is sanctioned by the United States Bowling Congress and is open to those up to the age of 21.
The league will take place at the West Side Lanes at the Recreation Center. All bowlers will need to purchase a USBC card for $15. There is also a weekly fee of $5 for bantam and $6 for juniors (shoe rental is included in the weekly fee).
The bantam division (ages 10 and younger) will compete at 10 a.m. while juniors (ages 11-21) will compete at noon. The league lasts for 12 weeks.
USBC prizes and awards will be given for achievement.
Registration deadline is this Saturday. Make payments at the West Side Lanes in the New Recreation Center.
Meanwhile, the Taft College volleyball camp will run from March 18-April 24 (with the exception of spring break).
The camp will be instructed by the Cougar volleyball team and will learn and practice beginning offensive and defensive skills.
Instructional level (ages 6-10) will be Mondays while the Youth level (ages 11-14) will be on Wednesdays.
The cost is $30 per person and will go from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Taft College Gym.
