Taft's Fourth of July is going to start a bit early this year.
But its going to last for two days, and the Taft District Chamber of Commerce is bringing back fireworks this year after the skies went dark for the Fourth of July 2012.
The fireworks will be held on Rails to Trails about 9 p.m. on July 3 (Wednesday) as part of an evening that will also include live bands and a beer garden.
Bands will play before and after the fireworks.
The next day the Westside Christian Ministers Association will present a family-style, day-long picnic with hot dogs, bounce houses, fun and games.
Shannon Jones, the Chamber's events coordinator, said the chamber decided to hold the fireworks on Wednesday night to keep the family theme for the July 4 WSCMA picnic while providing an evening of entertainment to go along with the fireworks show.
In addition, Jones said, it allows families to spend the day at the picnic and then go home for their own fireworks if they wish.
The fireworks show will be funded in part by a $5,000 donation from Bob Hampton and a $1,000 donation from Dave Noerr.
