Cougar softball teams wins 10-4 and 23-5 to go to 2-1 in CVC
Taft College ended the first game of Tuesday’s softball doubleheader here and started the second with 10-run bursts as the Cougars swept the Porterville Pirates 10-4 and 23-5.
Stephanie Keith had six hits, Chelsea Eli-Kido and Kelina Nakai five each and sisters Venise and Tuiai Elisaro both homered and drove in four runs. Brooklyn Amador had two doubles and two singles.
The Cougars trailed 2-0 in the first game but scored 10 in the last inning, then opened the second game of the doubleheader with another 10-run explosion.
Jessica Neher got the first-game win. She allowed four earned runs on five hits, struck out two and walked four.
Cheyenne Emerson pitched the second game, which ended after five innings on the eight-run rule. She allowed just two earned runs on four hits, fanned one and walked two.
TC scored 33 runs on 36 hits to improve their Central Valley Conference record to 2-1 heading into Thursday’s road game at Reedley College.
