A man stopped for riding his bike without a taillight ended up facing felony drug charges after deputies found nine grams of suspected methamphetamine in his hat when they searched him.
Sgt. Martin Downs said the suspect, identified as Maruillio Sylvester, 26, was riding a bike with no headlights just before 10 p.m. Sunday night on Lucard near Fifth street.
Deputies tried to make a traffic stop and had to use lights and sirens to get him to pull over, the sergeant said, but only after a block and a half.
"He told the deputies he didn't know that they wanted him to stop," Downs said.
Deputies talked to Sylvester, and during the conversation they found evidence of methamphetamine paraphernalia, Downs said.
He was arrested, and while being booked at Taft jail, deputies found about 9 grams of the drug in his hat, the sergeant said.
Sylvester was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
